There are 118 names on the Great War Roll of Honour in St. John’s church, shown above. (Just click on the image itself to find out more details). There are other Moordown men who fell, and whose names do not appear on that Roll. Such a lot of names for such a small ‘village’ - as Moordown still was in 1914 - and each name a devastating individual family tragedy...... Our research has allowed us to discover more about some of these men... where they lived... who they married.... but - so far at least - we have very few photographs of any of the men... or indeed very little detail about their personal lives. We have been lucky enough to receive some family photos and mementos on a few of the men. We are hoping for more.
